This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers englishconvention.org only. It does not cover the other Sigma Tau Delta or English Honor Societies websites, which have their own policies.
We do not use analytics, advertising trackers, or social media pixels on this site. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. The only personal information we receive through this website is what you deliberately type into a form and submit.

Like nearly all websites, our host records standard server logs when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and the date and time. Our host uses these for security, troubleshooting, and preventing abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
Our hosting provider is WP Engine, and traffic passes through Cloudflare for security and performance. Both act as our service providers.
This site sets one cookie: __cf_bm, placed by Cloudflare to distinguish human visitors from automated traffic. It expires after about 30 minutes and is not used for advertising or tracking you across sites.
We do not use advertising, analytics, or social media cookies. If you log in as a site administrator, WordPress sets additional session cookies, which applies only to our staff.
Our sponsorship and advertising inquiry form asks for your name, organization, job title, email address, phone number, preferred contact time, the package you are interested in, and any notes you add.
That information is emailed to our staff so we can reply. It is not stored in this website’s database. It then lives in our email system for as long as we need it to handle your inquiry and any resulting sponsorship.
Convention registration, paper and panel submissions, and some membership forms are handled outside this website. When you follow one of those links you leave englishconvention.org.
Convention registration runs on a platform Sigma Tau Delta builds and operates itself. Information you enter there stays with us and is not handed to an outside registration vendor. It is used to process your registration, plan the convention, and contact you about your attendance.
Some forms do use outside services. The Transfer Students as Provisional Members form is hosted on Wufoo, and information you submit there is governed by Wufoo’s privacy policy in addition to ours. Please review it before submitting.
We load typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser requests those font files directly from Google, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request. We do not send Google any other information about you, and we do not use Google Analytics.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not use it for advertising or share it with advertising networks. We do not track you across other websites.
Inquiry emails are kept as long as needed to respond and to administer any resulting relationship, then deleted in the normal course of managing our mailboxes. Server logs are retained on our host’s standard schedule, typically a short rolling window. Information submitted on third-party platforms is kept according to those platforms’ policies and our records-retention practices.
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable period.
Depending on where you live — including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and several U.S. states — you may have additional rights, such as objecting to certain processing or requesting a copy of your data in portable form. Contact us at the address above and we will honor those rights where they apply.
The convention welcomes students from our member societies, and some attendees and prospective attendees are under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website beyond what a student or their school, chapter, or sponsor provides in order to participate. If you believe a minor has provided us information and you would like it removed, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
We use HTTPS across the site and rely on our hosting provider’s security measures. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted clearly.
