Calatrava's wings open and close twice daily—a working metaphor for the convention's theme oftechnê: craft expressed through machine.
0.6 mi from venueA truly wonderful event that brings hundreds of English Honor Societies members together from around the globe—to share experiences and ideas, present to their peers, be recognized for their achievements, and participate in the official work of the Society.
The 2027 theme—technê (Τεχνη)—is the Greek word that names not just a craft and its products, but the understanding behind it. Technê is the deep knowledge that makes a master capable of teaching others.
This year we ask attendees to consider technê in light of generative AI: How does the writer’s craft hold up when machines can produce text on demand? What is gained, and what is lost? When should we use these tools — and when should we resist?
An understanding of the craft deep enough for masters to teach others.
Attendees enjoy opportunities to meet face-to-face with other students, faculty, and respected authors; make new friends; discuss the disciplines of English language and literature; and enjoy the offerings of the convention's location.
Deliver papers, creative writing, and roundtable discussions in concurrent sessions throughout the convention.
Hear from acclaimed authors and scholars in keynote and spotlight sessions including Angie Cruz and Devoney Looser.
Receive Society awards and chapter honors, and participate in formal Society business meetings.
Build relationships with fellow English Honor Societies members, Faculty Advisors, editors, and authors from around the world.
