Writing Marathon Leader
Dr. Richard Louth, Professor Emeritus of English at Southeastern Louisiana University and creator of the New Orleans Writing Marathon, will offer two opportunities for convention attendees to explore the literary heritage of the city of New Orleans and engage in creative writing through these marathons. Founder of the Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project, he has published widely on writing pedagogy and creative nonfiction and is the recipient of multiple teaching awards and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities “Light up for Literacy” Award.
About the Author
Dr. Richard Louth, is a Professor Emeritus of English at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he taught writing and literature for 45 years, and is also founding Director of the Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project, and creator of the New Orleans Writing Marathon. He received his B.A. from Brown University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He has published on Writing Marathons in College Composition and Communication, Writing and Pedagogy, Phi Kappa Phi Forum, Assay, Louisiana Literature, and the National Writing Project Quarterly. His creative writing has been published in Louisiana in Words, Louisiana Literature, Country Roads, and Speak. He has received “Excellence in Teaching” awards from SLU’s College of Arts and Sciences, Honors Program, and the University itself; he has also received the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities “Light up for Literacy” Award.
